Video of Dexter pushing stuff

Dexter still refuses to even try walking without holding on to something. He now just pushes anything around him to walk around the house or outside the house. Favorite things to push are his car and activity table but he also pushes dogs, trash cans, high chairs, strollers, really anything. If he is walking holding on to you and you try to let one or both hands go he will just stop and go down to his knees.

Happy 3 day weekend!

I get to spend all weekend with mommy, daddy and the dogs. I can't wait! We are going to a dog park this morning - Let the fun begin!

1 year checkup!

Today I visited my doctor. I like to go to the doctor's office. I get measured and people look in my ears and eyes and listen to my heart and lungs - it is all very fun. My weight is 22 lbs 9 oz (50%), my height is 29.9 inches (50-75%) and my huge head is 49cm (>97%). My oxygen sats were 95%.

I passed all of my one year milestones except physically still not walking by myself and verbally I haven't spoken 3 words consistently. My doctor isn't worried though since I can walk holding on to people or things and I babble up a storm, he just can't understand what I am saying. My ears were not infected for once but the eardrums look "dull" (Chronic ear infections can lead to verbal delays and balance issues...) so he is glad I am seeing the Ear, Nose, Throat doctor next month and getting my hearing tested next month.

Then the fun part ended. I went into the shot room where 2 nurses attacked me with needles! I got 5 shots in under 10 seconds (Hepatitis A; influenzae type b; Measles, Mumps, Rubella; Pneumococcal & Chicken Pox). I cried for like 5 seconds and then I got band-aids and I was happy again.

Then the really not fun part ended. I had to get blood drawn to check my hemoglobin & hematocrit level. I sat in line at the VA hospital (that is where the Air Force gets all the blood work down) for over an hour with all sorts of crusty old veterans in silly hats. I tried to make a few laugh or wave at me during this time but they were very serious or asleep in their chairs. Finally it was my turn and the lab guy put something very tight around my arm and then poked me with a needle! He poked and poked until he gave up and this other lab person wanted to try in my other arm! At this point I am screaming as loud as I can to try and get out of there but she got it and then wrapped both my arms in colorful tape and said I was a good & brave little boy. Which at that point I had to agree with her and stop crying. When I left all the nice old people were wide awake in the waiting room and this time they all smiled and waved at me to make me feel better.

I am now home and sleeping - but keeping one eye open until I can trust mommy not to bring me back to the needle pokers!

No more doctors for a while. I see a Dentist June 15th and the Ear doctor June 30th - mommy said no shots those days!

My playground

All my cousins are talking about their playgrounds recently so I wanted to show you my playground on base. This is the largest playground but there are tons of little playgrounds all around base housing. I might have mentioned a few times how sunny it is in New Mexico - well the playgrounds have these great big fabric covers over them so its nice and cool. If any of my cousins want to come visit me we can play on these all day long!

Here is a video shot on Daddy's iphone of me sliding!

My grandfather told me if I learn how to pitch left handed I could be a millionaire in the big leagues. So I better start practicing now. I think I am up to 5mph.

I love, love, love to be outside. If I hear a door opening I will crawl as fast as I can to get to it before you close it.

Dan Update

Dan's life has been moving a tad quicker this past month. A few weeks ago he was told he was going to deploy to Bahrain this summer. Everything was moving along for this deployment except his medical clearance. About a week before he was going to be cleared he started having a lot of joint pain and stiffness especially in the mornings. Finally it got to the point where he couldn't use his hands for a few hours after waking up and he had to see the doctor. They ran a ton of tests - blood work and x-rays and have diagnosed him with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), moderate in his feet and severe in his hands. If anyone has seen his hands an arthritis diagnosis probably doesn't surprise you. He has been on meds now for 2 weeks and has show a lot of improvement. He has a consult in to see a specialist and his deployment has been officially canceled.

For the nurses out there here are a few of his test results:
Anti-CCP 92 (Normal 0-5) A test for RA
Westergren 46 (Normal <15) A type of sedimentation test showing inflammation
RF-QUANT 10.8 (Normal 0-12) This is a standard RA test and his was in the normal range, but other tests are more clearly positive for RA
C-reactive Protein 36.5 (Normal 0-10) Generalized inflammation test

At least on the cancer front his follow up checks have been normal and he has established himself with an oncology doctor here in Albuquerque for his routine check ups. Here is a picture of the family - It was about 90 degrees out so me, Dex and the dogs are dressed for the weather. One of Dan's new prescriptions warned him about sun exposure...so he goes outside in full sweat pants and top. What a silly boy, surprised he didn't pass out from heat stroke.

10,378 feet high!

On Mother's Day I took mommy and nana on a 2.5 mile tram ride up the Sandia Mountains. It took 15 minutes to get to the top. Here are some pictures from our adventure! It was fun but next time I need to be able to walk or go in the backpack because that stroller ride was bumpy!

Happy Mother's Day!! & another triathlon story

Happy Mother's Day to Mommy, Nana, Gram, Great-nana, Aunt Heather & Aunt Debbie!
My Aunt Heather sent these flowers to us, they are so fun to touch and smell.

Below is a picture of me and mommy after her Triathlon this morning. Doesn't she look refreshed after her race? This is because yet again she had bike troubles. 2 weeks ago her mountain bike fell of the rack and broke the brake. Today her brand new street bike that was just tuned, fitted and given new tire tubes broke. The back tire went flat right before the race, but she changed out the tube and was going to have a good race. After running in (run was first, then bike then swim) the bike area under 28 minutes (a new record for mommy - yea!) she jumped on her bike and the back tire went bam! Goo seeped out and the tire was flat again. There must be something broken inside the wheel that is popping the tubes. So she didnt get to start the bike or do the swim :( Me and daddy and nana were so excited to cheer her on too! So instead we went for a walk as a family and mommy carried me in the backpack. I love my backpack - I can't wait until I am 6 feet tall - the world is so much better from up here!

I hope everyone has a wonderful mother's day- I love you!

Cupcakes!

Birthdays are fun! People come over to play with you, you get to open presents and play with shiny wrapping paper. But best of all you get to eat cupcakes!

Mommy was determined to get this silly hat on me!

I had a wonderful birthday party, thank you to everyone who called to wish me Happy Birthday or sent a present to me!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my birthday! Here is a picture of me and my nana!

Weight: About 21 pounds 5oz. I have my 1 year checkup in 2 weeks so I will give you full stats then. I also get a whole bunch of shots that day!

Skills:
Physically: My left leg issues seem to be getting better. I can walk on it again while holding on to people or objects. Still not willing to let go and walk by myself.
Verbally: I can say momma and daddy well. Hopefully more words are coming because I have a lot to say! I might not be able to talk back to you but I understand what your saying - If you ask me to drink my juice I will, if you ask me to give you an object I will.

Likes: My new room at daycare is fun. I like going through the recycle bin and pulling things out I don't want in there. Then the same old - going for walks and reading books. I also like the show "SuperWhy" on PBS

Dislikes: I dont like mommy or daddy leaving the room. I don't care about walking since I can crawl somewhere so much quicker.

New Foods since my last update: Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwich is the greatest invention ever.

Highlights of the month and what is to come: This month I stopped using bottles completely. I started wearing shoes during the day and I moved into a new classroom full of new kids and new teachers. My nana also flew to New Mexico just to visit me! Can't wait for next month.

Last day as a baby

Can you believe I will be one tomorrow! I am very excited about this, so excited I should take an extra nap today in preparation for my nana coming to visit me.

I have really grown up these past few weeks. I am completely off bottles now and although I resisted for a few days I am ok with it now. I started whole milk two weeks ago and I really like to drink that so I give mommy permission to stop giving me breastmilk. I am very proud of my mommy for feeding me breastmilk every day for an entire year! I did have to add in formula at 10 months but not too much - I only used 1 small can of formula for my whole first year while at home! I think all that saved money should go towards toys for me - just a suggestion.

Tomorrow I am having a party with cupcakes and lasagna and presents and singing and dancing and anything else I can think up so I will be sure to update you on that tomorrow or Thursday. Until then!

New Toys!

My good friends Sean and Tyler gave me some more of their old toys yesterday! They are so nice to me. I now have a wooden stacking toy and a big dancing Elmo doll to play with. Not to mention several more toys I haven't had time to play with yet!

exhausted

Here is a video of me taking a bath and trying not to fall asleep after my first full day in the 1-2 year old room at daycare. I was exhausted! Only a few more days until I turn one and my nana comes to visit - I can't wait!
