Great-Nana turns 90!

This year my Great-Nana Moynihan turns 90 years old!  To celebrate lots of her family gathered in Fernandina Beach where she lives.

Here is everyone who came (about 1/3 of her family) - Amanda, Cynthia, Shane, Beth, Great-Nana, Grandfather, Cindy, Ned, Katie, Rob, Daddy, Mommy and me.

Great-Nana was so surprised that we all came and was so happy to see us.  She wished that we all could live as long as she has and have a wonderful life like she has.

Great-nana also had a beautiful necklace of Queen Nefertiti - who I told her I learned about at school for our Egypt presentation.

Aside from the birthday party I spent a lot of time in the water - oceans and swimming pools. I had the best time ever with my Daddy - he taught me how to boogie board!!

I even met a turtle one day when walking with mommy and Nana.

I can't wait to go back to Florida in August for Nana's 70th birthday & retirement party!

Happy Father's Day - Play Ball!

Today we went to a Potomac Nationals game, our local AAA baseball team.  The Nationals' won the game and after the game all the kids and dads got to run the bases.  After that they set up two T-ball fields in the outfield for local t-ball teams to play on.  We played one inning and I had a great hit!  It was a fun day with my family and now my T-ball season is officially over.  I think I will try T-ball again in the fall.

Conversations

Tonight I had a conversation with Dexter I want to remember in 13 years in case he changes how he feels.

Dexter:  One of my teacher's kid is graduating high school tonight and going to college.
Mom:  Oh that's exciting for your teacher.  When you go to college I am going to cry so much!
Dexter: Why?
Mom: Because I will be sad that I don't get to see you every day.
Dexter: Why?
Mom: Because when you go to college you will live there and not in my house anymore.
Dexter: {long pause and starts to cry}  I will miss you so much.

Here is a photo of a birdhouse we painted.  Aunt Beth bought the bird house for Dexter when we visited the botanical gardens last weekend.

Moveable Alphabet

At my school I practice sounding out words and spelling small words using something called "moveable alphabet".  At school we have objects and colored letters to help sound out words and today I practiced this with one of my home workbooks.  I am getting good at sounding out words and I can't wait until I can read more!

This picture is from my birthday at school, I was showing Daddy how to spell :)

Memorial Gardens & International Day

Friday we went to Richmond to the Lewis Ginter Memorial Gardens.  We met up with Aunt Beth, Uncle Shane and cousin Cynthia.  We had a great time looking at the flowers, treehouse, butterflies and the water splash area of the gardens.

Today Dexter's school, Montessori of Gainesville, had their International Day celebration and Kindergarten graduation.  We heard songs and dances from the countries of Norway, Phillipines, Thiland, Iraq, Scotland and Egypt.  Dexter's class did Egypt - they read a poem and sang two songs.  The boys wore traditional Eqyptian robes and caps, the girls wore colorful dresses with scarfs and beads.   The 4 kindergarteners in his class dressed up as famous Egyptian kings and queens.

Port Discovery

Today we went to an awesome kids museum called Port Discovery in Baltimore, MD.  There was so much to do and not enough time to do everything, despite being there 5 hours and being the last ones to leave the building.  There was an awesome play structure that covered 3 floors and then tons of things to play with.  Our favorite section was about Egypt.
